Bridge & Xander's Quarters [Newtech City, 2023]

So, the Carson household (to use the term loosely, since it's definitely not a house and not really even an apartment to be honest) is now officially one with dual-income, no kids. Well, unless the new-and-improved, now-in-more-locations-than-ever-before Fandom weirdness struck again the way it did a couple of days ago.

Part of Bridge is actually kind of disappointed it skipped him. Not that he's gonna admit that.

"I miss having space," he comments randomly. Of course, his dorm room hadn't been bigger than their present quarters... but then, he'd practically moved out of the dorms in all but name only long before he'd actually left Fandom.

"Like hearing you laugh," Bridge protests, momentarily forgetting that his mouth ought to be doing things other than talking presently.

"And yet you want to distract me from the puns." Not that he's not doing a good job of that 'cause yeah.

"S'different when I'm the one making you laugh," Bridge insists. He's also kind of partial to being the one to make Xander make other kinds of noises as well.

"You always make me laugh," Xander answers, reaching down to muss Bridge's hair.

Which makes *Bridge* laugh. "Love you," he murmurs, then goes back to the task of making Xander forget about puns. And possibly making Xander make some of those non-laughing but still definitely happy noises.

And, yeah, again with the Bridge would probably be feeling pretty smug if not for the fact that he's currently busy. Mostly right now he's concerned about what'll happen if he does that with his tongue.

Which is, hey, pretty much what Bridge was going for with that.

As far as Xander's concerned, Bridge can not only keep doing that, he could probably resign from SPD and have an incredibly lucrative future career of just doing that for the rest of his life.

...As long as he's only doing that for Xander. Which probably means Xander needs to pick up a second job.

And there's a part of Bridge that'd be all for that, because making Xander happy makes *him* happy (and not just in the sense that there's this whole psychic-feedback thing, though that certainly doesn't hurt the matter). But if Xander were working two jobs then there might not be *time* for that and as far as Bridge is concerned that would be a terrible, terrible thing.

Which was, well. The point of the entire exercise and all. So again with the would-be being smug if he weren't currently concentrating on more immediate matters, like post-mission cleanup. Of a sort.

"Someday we'll have to actually try having sex on the bed," Xander says with a hiccupy laugh.

"That's another thing I miss," Bridge says mournfully. "The bed in the apartment was so much better. And bigger."

"...I could build us a new one? Seriously, not like the deck thing."

Bridge looks thoughtful. "Normally cadets aren't allowed non-regulation furniture," he says. "But then, normally cadets live in tiny rooms that are half the size of our quarters."

"I could try to make it look regulation," Xander suggests, already sketching things out in his head. "....ish."

"Works for me," Bridge says with a grin. "But you can do that tomorrow."

"I guess we could put up with the old one for tonight."

"Give it a proper send-off," Bridge says solemnly.

"...Maybe after a bit of recovery time."

"For the *bed*?" Bridge asks, deliberately misinterpreting. "Somehow I don't think its feelings are gonna be hurt if we tell it it's on the way out."

That would be the sound of someone getting bopped on the head with a sofa-pillow.
