Newtech City, 2023 [Saturday Evening]

Thanksgiving had been... well, slightly awkward, with nearly all of the hosts avoiding each other, but still good in the sense of getting to see everyone. Well, almost everyone, anyway.

But now! Now it is Xander's birthday and birthdays, of course, merit non-Synthetron food and so Bridge and Xander are going out for dinner.

Xander blinks at him a few times, then grins. "I'll have that," he says to the waiter who's just arrived at his elbow.

No, literally. He's that short. Also, green.

Bridge just beams at Xander for a few moments before remembering, oh, yeah, dinner, and places his own order.

"Well, I can't ask how work was, since we just got back from L.A." Xander says, ticking things off on his fingers. "Weather's a pretty mined-out subject in California..."

"I could mention the fact that I've um, kind of invited like, half the people we know to come visit us," Bridge says. "Not all at once, obviously, since hi, *we* don't own a hotel."

Xander snickers. "Have you mentioned that to your parents, since they're the ones with the guest room?"

"...No?" Bridge says sheepishly. "Though, uh. Hey. Speaking *of* my parents..."

"Yeah?" Xander reaches for the basket of dinner rolls.

"They're kind of expecting us over for at least one night of Hanukkah dinner," Bridge informs him. "Especially since this is one of the first years in a while that they've actually been *home* for it."

"Eating your mother's cooking. The sacrifices I make for you..."

"I didn't really *think* you'd mind, but I did want to check with you first, since I know holidays with your family aren't exactly your favourite thing ever."

"Being with my family isn't exactly my favorite thing ever," Xander corrects him. "Holidays are just an extra-whopping dose of the crazy."

"Yes, well. You're part of my family too now, and we're pretty low on the crazy-meter, I hope you'll be glad to know."

Xander studies him for a moment. "You're just waiting for me to bring up the kitchen knife, aren't you."

"That was an *accident*," Bridge rolls his eyes. "She's never pulled a knife on anyone on purpose."

"Did I bring up the kitchen knife? I did not. I just pointed out that you were waiting for me to."

"Mentioning it counts as bringing it up."

"Oh, sure, bring logic into it."

"I will, thank you," Bridge smirks. "And, uh. Thank you," he nods to the waiter who chose that particular moment to bring their food.

"Whatever," Xander says, tugging his plate towards him. "I'll take your crazy family over mine, accidental knives and all, is all I'm sayin'."

"Your mom's not all that bad," Bridge points out. "In small, controlled doses."

"Maybe," Xander's willing to acknowledge. "But if there's one thing my family doesn't do it's controlled doses."

"Good thing we're a dimension or two and a decade and a half away, then," Bridge says. "So we don't need to worry about it."

"Thank God," Xander agrees, taking a tentative bite of his.... whatever it is. "...Huh. Whoa."

"Good whoa?" Bridge asks hopefully.

"Hot. But not like... Umbridge-breath hot. Good hot."
