[personal profile] bridge_carson

First, the basics about Bridge: He’s 16, going to be a Junior in the fall, and is pulled from about four years before the series (Power Rangers Space Patrol Delta) canon. Since the series takes place in 2025, this means that, yes, he was only born a few years ago. As such, a lot of 80s/90s cultural references that a good portion of Fandom High’s student population would make are going to go right over his head.

By Bridge’s time, Earth’s population is a mix of alien and human, and the technology is much more advanced than one would expect for about two decades in to the future. There’s no real explanation given for this, but since Angel Grove and a handful of other Californian cities have been under attack by aliens since about 1993, it’s safe to say that they’ve been aware of the fact that there’s life on other planets for quite a while. Then there’s the fact that in 1998, the Rangers “borrowed” a shuttle from NASADA (PRverse version of NASA) that conveniently happened to be compatible with a spaceship built on an entirely different planet. And then there’s the space colony that was launched in 1999.

At the start of the series, Bridge is a B-Squad Ranger Cadet with Syd Drew and Sky Tate. They’re assigned to track down a couple of criminals- Z Delgado and Jack Landors- who they bring in, only to find out that Commander Cruger wants to put them on B-Squad as well. Why? Well, I’ll get to that in a bit. Anyway, this is where things start to go a bit differently. First off, in the FH timeline, Bridge and his teammates were promoted to C-Squad just prior to his arrival at FH. Secondly, Z arrived and was assigned to C-Squad as of a few weeks ago.

In canon, it was revealed that the B-Squad Rangers’ parents were all scientists with SPD, working on developing experimental Ranger powers as far back as 2001. A side effect of these experiments was that all their children were born with superhuman “abilities”. Since Bridge is pre-canon, he doesn’t know this- yet. In fact, up until Z’s arrival, he believed that he, Sky, and Syd were the only humans with strange abilities. Now he knows there are two more (Z and Jack). There’s one other, a kid named Sam, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be an issue here at FH. So right now, Bridge knows this much: that there are more kids than he thought who have special powers, and that for some reason, Cruger wants them all at SPD, specifically all on a Ranger squad together.

Canonically, there are some weird prejudices against mutants in the PRverse. In the year 3000, for example, mutants are illegal but genetically-engineered or artificially augmented (with Ranger powers and the like) humans are not. Being one of only a handful of mutants, it's safe to say that Bridge has likely experienced this prejudice at some point. He's relatively open about his powers in Fandom, though, just because there have been so few really negative reactions. In fact, he's almost gotten used to people not minding- so any negative reactions *cough*Alec*cough* are probably gonna throw him for a loop.

As for just what his powers are, well, they liked to change that week-to-week in canon. Sometimes, he reads auras. Sometimes, he can sense who has recently been in a place. Or get visions from objects. Or read thoughts. Or have precognitive dreams. For the sake of simplicity, I’m just going to say that he can detect any sort of psychic energy. Because his powers are channeled through his hands somehow, he is always wearing a pair of black leather gloves (except when he’s swimming or something, in which case he has waterproof ones on), which he only takes off in order to actively use his powers. With them on, he can pick up only the strongest changes in someone’s energy- sudden spikes in emotion and the like- usually just enough to give him some sort of warning that maybe he should investigate further.

OOCly, I won’t have him use his powers to scan someone without OOC permission. ICly, he will typically ask permission before scanning someone. Unless, of course, someone’s acting oddly enough to make him suspicious, in which case he could be convinced to do a scan. So... if you need an aura-reading or anything like that, just let me know.

Another thing he's nearly-always wearing is his uniform. Despite what you see in the icons, it's actually grey and black, not grey and green, as he hasn't been assigned a Ranger colour yet. Unfortunately, he got his morpher about halfway through the first episode, so there aren't exactly a lot of shots of the non-coloured uniform. I try to avoid using the non-uniform icons except when he actually *is* out of uniform, but just pretend if you happen to catch me using one (same with the few icons where he's not in gloves).

Personality-wise, he's kind of eccentric. He tends to ramble. He does handstands when he really needs to think something through. He also has a fondness for toast and wiggles his fingers whenever he says the word "buttery". Why? Nobody really knows. He's not even really aware that he's doing it. It's possible that it's ingrained in his cellular makeup.

Last... ABC Damage Control. ABC Damage Control is the business Bridge operates with his friends Anders and Cally. Between the three of them (okay, Bridge and Cally, with Anders there to hold tools and lift heavy objects) they can fix or build just about anything electronic or mechanical. They have an “office” in Room 225 of the dorms, which is open pretty much whenever they feel like it. Feel free to stop by there or track one of them down individually if you have a project you’d like them to work on. Just a warning, though: the things Bridge works on typically end up with rather “unique” extra features. Rory Gilmore’s laptop makes waffles. Jaye Tyler and John Crichton have toasters who talk. Charlie Kawalsky has an iPez. The list goes on. He hasn’t really figured out why this happens, exactly, just that it’s some strange interaction between his aptitude as a mechanic, love for junk food, and use of parts scrounged from around Fandom.

Edited to add in some stuff about his very limited wardrobe ;)
