Secluded Spot on the Beach [Sunday Evening]

Bridge has a blanket spread out on the sand and takeout cartons from Ching Tai arranged on the blanket. Now all he needs is the person he's set this up *for*.

"I brought cupcakes too," Bridge says, hoping that Xander remembers the rule about cupcakes and winning.

Xander would point out that winning in this situation really doesn't require the addition of cupcakes, but he's too busy scoutinga round for the cupcakes. "You so totally win."

"Wasn't sure if you'd remember that," Bridge says, producing the box from JGOB.

"Not a lot about you that I forgot," Xander answers honestly.

"Really?" Bridge says. The same thing is true for him of course, about Xander, but considering that a lot less time has passed for Bridge, he's of the opinion that it doesn't mean as much.

He hands over a cupcake, not really caring if Xander's finished with dinner or not yet. It's their anniversary, they can eat food out of order if they want to.

Xander takes the cupcake, but he leans over to press a kiss against the corner of Bridge's mouth, first. "Sometimes at the beginning I kind of wished I could," he admits. "Or at least forget how much I missed being with you."

"I think I may've said this before but... those months without you? Things just didn't feel *right*." Bridge says, reaching for Xander's hand and twining their fingers together.

"I had to sort of..." Xander rubs his thumb over the back of Bridge's hand while he tries to pick the right words, wondering if he should ask to borrow that sock. "Put it away in the back of my mind and not look at it very hard, if I was gonna actually have a life, y'know? But I never forgot."

"I understand," Bridge says quietly. And it's not like *he* hadn't tried the having-a-life thing, back when he'd still thought he wouldn't be seeing Xander for another six years.

"Not that I was always all that successful at the not thinking about it part," Xander adds with a short laugh. "See e-mail, comma, barrage of."

"I did see it," Bridge agrees, leaning his head against Xander's shoulder. "You know. Eventually."

"Eventually's better than never," Xander points out. "Didn't know for sure when I was sending them which it would be."

"Yeah," Bridge says. "And speaking of. I um, got email from home yesterday. Well, Z and I did."

"From home like...parents home?" Xander, not being psychic, goes in entirely the wrong direction, yes, but he might be a bit fixated on that direction lately.

"Uh," Bridge says sheepishly. "Not yet? No, this was from Dr. Manx."

It takes Xander a second. "Hot cat lady and I'm fairly sure I just disturbed you by saying that?

"Dude, she's like, my *boss* kinda. Of course technically speaking so are *you* but that's different!"

"It's legal in most states to think your boss is hot," Xander points out.

"Yes, but..." Bridge flails. "Just." He flails more.

Xander snerks. "So what did your not-hot bosslady have to say?"

"Uh, what workshops are you guys taking, how did you do in your classes, is there anything we should know about?" It's that last one that's worrying him.

"So that whole school blowing up issue..."

"We may have glossed over that." If by glossed over one means "did not mention at all".

"I can see where that might be something you'd want to leave glossy." Xander swipes frosting off his cupcake and licks his finger thoughtfully. "Are you gonna get in trouble if it, ah, gets unglossed, though?"

"I don't know," Bridge answers honestly. "I just know that we don't want to have to leave."
