Echolls Estate [Saturday Evening]

The ballroom of the mansion is done up in the same mostly-green colour scheme as the wedding ceremony. There's no assigned seating- unless you're in the wedding party, and then you're at the head table (unless you felt like moving around, of course, because gluing people to their seats was not part of the plan)- just several small tables around the room. Off to the side there's also a table meant for wedding gifts. There is, of course, plenty of food and drink, including the most important food-item of them all: the cake Piper had crafted exactly to Xander and Bridge's specifications.

Parker added, "Is Anders giving a speech? DAISY! SPEECH!" She waited a second, then said, "Either he gives one or I'll just toast you guys. Because you won me forty bucks off Zero. SO YAY MARRIAGE!"

"Are you insinuating something, Officer?" Parker demanded, the s's sharp and unslurred, but her eyes too bright and voice a shade too loud. "Fine! Just enough! And... No comment. I plead the Fifth? Do they even have that in your time? Or is it just a fifth of evil space vodka in twenty-twenty-whatever?"

"Have you ever known me to insinuate anything?" Bridge asks, noting the lack of slurriness with relief. He's well aware of the fact that Parker is a big girl who can take care of herself, thankyouverymuch, but he's still *Bridge* and that means he worries.

"Valid point," Parker said, pointing straight at him, lit up and a little goofy. "Yay for the direct and un-crooked route. Woooooo." She grinned. "I'm just glad, after that little scare at the ceremony, that everything went off. I was about ready to brain someone when it finally went off, sheesh."

River dropped off a spare part from the Acorn, wrapped in a thick layer of cling film and with a card depicting Bridge and Xander.

She fidgeted in her seat. "Mostly some wave theory experiments, at the moment. Catching up on the news about the cloaking device people seem to have come up with on their own, without any help from little gray aliens. Helping Cam restore his old car."

God, that sounded boring, even to her.

"Xander told me that it's okay, so I have to trust that he wouldn't let all of us get attacked on what's probably the happiest day of his life," Dawn shrugged, leaning into him as they moved with the music, "and why wouldn't we be okay?"

Maybe a little bit, based on her previous experience, yeah. "Not really, no." It was okay to lie to someone for a good cause, and Xander didn't need to know everything. "My mom would have loved to see this, and she would have loved Bridge, and the way you are with him."

He almost asked if that was bad until he remembered that Veronica never really got along with him. "He must be doing something right then," he remarked.
