Echolls Estate [Saturday Evening]

The ballroom of the mansion is done up in the same mostly-green colour scheme as the wedding ceremony. There's no assigned seating- unless you're in the wedding party, and then you're at the head table (unless you felt like moving around, of course, because gluing people to their seats was not part of the plan)- just several small tables around the room. Off to the side there's also a table meant for wedding gifts. There is, of course, plenty of food and drink, including the most important food-item of them all: the cake Piper had crafted exactly to Xander and Bridge's specifications.

"I can't argue there. Not that that's a bad thing." She followed his glance and grinned when she spotted Rory at the end of it. "Things still going okay?"

"Better than I'd hoped for," he admitted quietly. "And how's your roommate?"

"I'm glad. He's fine. Still in one piece and not utterly horrified by living with me."

"People have been horrified to live with you?" He snickered. "I doubt that."

"I get bed hair," she told him, straight-faced.

"I hear wearing a lampshade will fix that," he replied.

"No."

He shrugged. "Worth a try," he said. "What has been keeping you busy?"

She fidgeted in her seat. "Mostly some wave theory experiments, at the moment. Catching up on the news about the cloaking device people seem to have come up with on their own, without any help from little gray aliens. Helping Cam restore his old car."

God, that sounded boring, even to her.

Anakin gave her a small smile. "I reconfigured the garbage disposal. Life outside the island is entirely too normal."

"What did you reconfigure the garbage disposal to do?" Because with Anakin, it was probably better to ask.

"It disposes garbage much more efficiently now," Anakin said, all innocence. "About four times as fast."

She hadn't noticed a problem with the speed at which her garbage was being disposed before, but she probably would now. "Oh, I see," she laughed, "and is that all it does?"

"It can also eat cans and bottles?"

"You're going to be very, very wealthy from engineering patents, aren't you?"

He hadn't thought of that. "Maybe?"

She laughed. "I'm sure someone can explain the process for you. You could be a famous inventor, in addition to all of your other jobs."

"Famous is good," he mused. "I used to be famous..."

"Maybe not quite that famous."

"They don't make action figures of inventors?"

Sam might have reddened a little bit. "Depends on whether or not you count physicists."

Not that she collected them or anything.

Anakin gave her a knowing smile. "Missing any?" he asked.

Caught. "Benjamin Franklin has been discontinued," she admitted. "Everyone has Einstein and DaVinci. I'm hoping someone comes out with a Galileo soon, though. Both before and after his excommunication."

Anakin made a mental note for potential Christmas gifts. "I'd find you a genuine Skywalker, but they're all gone," he said.

"Sold out?"
