Echolls Estate [Saturday Evening]

The ballroom of the mansion is done up in the same mostly-green colour scheme as the wedding ceremony. There's no assigned seating- unless you're in the wedding party, and then you're at the head table (unless you felt like moving around, of course, because gluing people to their seats was not part of the plan)- just several small tables around the room. Off to the side there's also a table meant for wedding gifts. There is, of course, plenty of food and drink, including the most important food-item of them all: the cake Piper had crafted exactly to Xander and Bridge's specifications.

"We covered that," Veronica said. "You want to sit down?"

"If it's okay," he replied, aware that she hadn't really come over to talk either.

"Sure," she said. "I haven't heard from you in a while. How's everything going?"

"Yeah, just been... busy," he took a seat. "It's been okay. I found a job in Boulder, just working retail. How about you? How was that FBI thing?"

Veronica was still extremely curious to know what had happened to Cameron while he had been out of touch, but she figured that this wasn't the time or place to ask questions.

"My internship was great," she said. "I just got back to Neptune on Wednesday. What kind of retail job do you have?"

Because that seemed weird to her.

It was weird to him too, but it was a job and he was busy which was all that counted right now. "Selling mountain gear," he shrugged. "Nothing fancy. So you think you might just join the FBI then?"

"Maybe. I still have two years of college left, so we'll see what happens," she said. "No more Air Force for you?"

"No," he shook his head and glanced away for a moment as if he was checking something. "Not for the moment."

"Oh."

She had no idea what to say to that considering she knew that it would take something major to make Cameron give up that dream.

He knew that too, so he quickly changed the topic. "I bought a car. It's a bit of a rust heap right now, but once she's driving..."

"That's cool," Veronica said, sighing to herself at his rapid subject change. "You fixing it up yourself?"

"Sam's helping," he tapped his fingers on the side of the table, the nervous energy needing to go somewhere. "A Ford Mustang 1965 Fastback," he said, grinning just a little as he was proud of his baby.

It was good to see him smiling. "Very nice."

"It think so it's..." he paused, catching himself. "I'm not going to spend the entire evening babbling about my car at you."

"I'm just glad you're talking to me," Veronica said.

She immediately realized that it probably wasn't the best thing to say. "I'm sorry, that was inappropriate."

He shook his head as he glanced down at his hands for a moment. "No, not really. I get it."

"Today's a happy day," she said. "We don't need to have this conversation now."

He nodded and stretched a little. "So who's getting married next?"

"Not me, that's for sure," Veronica said. "And apparently not Logan and Angel. Maybe Cole and Phoebe."

"Now I'm wondering if they'd go for a beach wedding too," he replied, trying not to think on it too much.

"Cole and Phoebe? Who knows," she shrugged. "Logan and Angel? Nah, they'd go for a quickie service in Vegas or something."

"I'm trying not to think about Logan and Angel," he mumbled, because there were just some things three years away didn't help with.

Veronica smirked a little. "It's hard to believe they're still together."

"Yeah, but then I've been gone longer," he pointed out.

"Oh, right."

She had a hard time remembering that.
