Echolls Estate [Saturday Evening]

The ballroom of the mansion is done up in the same mostly-green colour scheme as the wedding ceremony. There's no assigned seating- unless you're in the wedding party, and then you're at the head table (unless you felt like moving around, of course, because gluing people to their seats was not part of the plan)- just several small tables around the room. Off to the side there's also a table meant for wedding gifts. There is, of course, plenty of food and drink, including the most important food-item of them all: the cake Piper had crafted exactly to Xander and Bridge's specifications.

"Okay," Anders said, a bit too readily. "Good to see you here, though. Been forever, and last time I saw you, you were kinda . . . yeah."

"Sorry about that," Angel said, more seriously.

Anders waved a hand. "It's . . ." 'Okay' would be kind of a lie, wouldn't it? "It's in the past. I think we're on our way back to cool now."

"Thanks," Angel said. He was still getting used to people being okay with him.

"So, uh. You guys keeping busy up the coast?" This was a little awkward, but Anders didn't want to just wander off.

"Yep."

It was such a mistake to rely on Angel to make small talk.

"Cool."

Really kinda was.

"Wish I had something to keep busy, 'stead of hanging around the apartment all day like a bum until school starts."

"There's the Olympics?" Angel offered.

"But . . ." Anders's expression turned panicked. "There's only one more week of that!"

Really, really panicked.

"And there's no hockey," Angel said. He was bitter about that.

He wasn't the only one.

"Not until Vancouver," Anders said, scowling. "Which I really want to go to but I can barely afford bus fare right now."

"Could get a job?" Angel suggested. Not that he had any idea what Anders' circumstances were.

"Trying," Anders said, grimacing. "It's not going so well at the moment."

"Where you looking?" Angel asked.

"Craigslist, Monster, Career Builder, all those places," and yes, Anders actually ticked them off on his fingers. "Haven't gotten any calls except from places with a way worse commute than I can handle if I'm juggling school and a job. I mean, I could get Bel to shimmer me, I guess, but we'd have to coordinate schedules and I don't wanna be the super-dependent guy."

"Plus this town isn't big on magic," Angel said.

"And that," agreed Anders. "Which worries me for when Bel finally can't take it any more and tries to go fireball our deadbeat landlord."

"Think that's possible?" Angel asked. "Veronica told me about the problems."

"We're losing chunks of ceiling to the leaks upstairs now," Anders admitted. "On top of the air conditioning and the dishwasher breaking down and the weird neighbors, and it might actually be down to the threat of fireballs to get them to do anything about it. Which will probably not make 'em any fonder of us."

"Can you move?" Angel asked.

Anders nodded. "We're definitely thinking about it now."
