After closing up the library for the day, Bridge heads over to Xander's on a mission. A mission to cook a dinner that would not involve any replicating of food. Well, okay, maybe a little replicating. If there was no other option. Because it's the 13th and that's usually anniversary-day but this month it's also Rosh Hashannah, but that kind of works out nicely since there's no one else in Fandom Bridge would rather spend tonight with anyway.

"No chocolate juice button?" Xander asks, sitting on a kitchen stool and peering over at what Bridge is up to.

"No chocolate juice button," Bridge shakes his head. "There is, however, chocolate cake for dessert. And apple cake too. Couldn't decide so I made some of each. You... may have enough leftovers to last you quite a while," he adds sheepishly.

"And if there's one thing we know I hate, it's extra food..."

Bridge snickers. "Okay, point," he admits, eyeing the soup thoughtfully before taking it off the heat. "Still. Thanks for letting me take over your kitchen."

"It's not like I was gonna use it for more than pushing the chocolate juice button," Xander points out. Not that he can't cook, but he doesn't do it all that often. "So what're we having besides lots of cake?"

"Well. Spinach soup. Challah. And pomegranate," he nods at the as-yet-unopened pomegranates on the counter. "Dates of course. And honey chicken, which is usually my mom's thing, so hopefully I didn't screw it up. I mean, I've helped make it but never did it all by myself before."

Xander watches him unblinking for a moment before replying, "See, just what I was going to make anyway..."

"Suuuuure," Bridge gives him a look. "You could open up the pomegranates though!" he suggests.

"I could!" Xander reaches over for one, then stares at it. "I could?"

"Uh huh," Bridge says. "Just cut the top off and then make like, five slices down the sides?" he attempts to demonstrate with a spoon. "And then split it open. You might wanna put it in a bowl of water for that last part. Makes it less messy. And trying to get pomegranate stains out? Not fun. Especially when it's your six-year old cousin who got juice all over her new dress and dude, you *told* her she didn't want to do that but does she listen? Noooo..." he rambles.

Xander stands up and reaches for a knife. "I'll try not to get pomegranate stains on my dress. Wouldn't want that."

Bridge snorts. "Oh, very funny. Your shirt, in your case."

Xander slices the top off the pomegranate, then grabs a bowl and runs some water into it to do the rest. "Wow, seedsville."

"Mmm hmm," Bridge says absently, staring at the chicken in the oven as if willing it to finish cooking faster.

As if on cue, the timer goes off, and Bridge takes it out and pokes it experimentally to see if it's actually done. Apparently satisfied, he places the pan on the empty serving dish in the middle of the table.

"That's everything, I think," he says. "Except! Oh!" And then he's grabbing the bottle of wine from the counter and pouring two glasses. "There."

"Can't forget the booze - almost like a Harris Family dinner except for the fact that the food actually smells good and none of it's airborne."

"And it won't be," Bridge says with a nod. "I think the no fighting rule extends to cover food fights. Well, except popcorn fights. Popcorn fights are okay."

"What about marshmallows?" Xander pulls out a chair for Bridge.

"Thank you," Bridge says, beaming at Xander. "And marshmallows can be an exception too, if you'd like."

"Well, not tonight. For one thing, no marshmallows."

"Just cake, dessert-wise. And cake is not for throwing."

"That'd be a waste, yeah. Unless we were invaded by demons that disintegrate when you throw cake at them."

"You can't just say things like that!" Bridge might be flailing a little now.

Really, Xander ought to know better. "Well at least I said it now, when we've got plenty of cake," he points out.

"I am not having a demon invasion during holiday dinner," Bridge says firmly, glaring out the dining room window as if that will make any potential attacking demons stop and reconsider.

"I hope that works better here than it used to in Sunnydale," Xander says, thinking of a certain Thanksgiving dinner.
